Semafone demonstrates continued dedication to data security with new accreditation

Guildford, Surrey, 7th January 2014 — Semafone® has further strengthened its position as the leading provider of secure payment technology for call centres by achieving ISO 27001:2013 certification. This makes Semafone the only IT security vendor to have achieved all four of the leading secure payment accreditations: ISO 27001, PA DSS, PCI-DSS Level 1 Service Provider and the official Visa Merchant listing.

ISO 27001 helps organisations keep internal assets secure; this includes financial information, intellectual property and employee details. To achieve the certificate, Semafone was assessed against the framework and guidelines of the International Organisation for Standardisation’s information security management system (ISMS). This included measurement by a UKAS accredited external evaluator of Semafone’s people, processes and technology against the ISMS framework.

“There is an increasing demand from customers for reassurance that their data is in safe hands”, said Tim Critchley, CEO of Semafone. “Certifications such as ISO 27001 are not easily attained and demonstrate a company’s dedication to protecting its customers and employees. We are finding ourselves partnering increasingly with global brands such as BT and Accenture, who demand the highest possible levels of security. As a security business ourselves, the ISO 27001 certification demonstrates to our partners that we practice what we preach.”

Semafone protects card payments made over the phone by allowing customers to enter their own card details directly into their telephone handset. The tones made by the individual keys are disguised so they cannot be identified by their sound and no card data is taken into the computer and telephony systems of the contact centre. This makes the transaction ultra-secure without interrupting the conversation between a customer and the service agent, so there is no compromise on customer service.
